Since leaving the staff of St Augustine's in 1974 for promotion to a local education authority advisory post in Wigan my career took me eventually into Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Schools in 1980. This eventually meant having to leave the Northwest and a daughter, to move to pastures new in Bedfordshire where our son settled, and then on to West Sussex. I retired from HM Inspectorate in 1994 but continued inspectorate work for OFSTED and in addition also act as a consultant to the Dept for Education and Employment. We always look forward to meeting old friends and neighbours from the days when we lived in the area.Throughout the years I have kept in touch with Alan Addis and Derek Smith, who succeeded me as Head of Technology. It was also a pleasant surprise to meet up with Andrew Halpin in the 1980's on one of my inspectorate visits to Croydon. He rose to be Assistant Principal at the Harris Technology College and is probably still in post there. My wife and I have now moved back to Cheshire to be closer to our family who live in Cheadle Hulme.
