Left St Augustine's in 1977 to become Head of Languages at St Thomas Aquinas High School. Studied Special Needs to learn how to help the many who had difficulties with their own language. Left full time teaching in 1984 thoroughly disillusioned with Manchester's Comprehensive Education Policy.
After a Bi-lingual Secretarial Course moved to Cumbria, taught German part time at Settlebeck High School in Sedbergh, translated commercial French.
In 1988, started a translation agency from home which, in 1997, won the DTI's North West Regional Award for help to Exporters - an award received from Bobby Charlton!
Now partly retired, working part time for ITL, the Manchester based agency who took over the business in 1999. Enjoying the fells and the grandchildren, involved with a local Oral History Project about the social and economic changes in the Dent, Sedbergh and Garsdale area since 1930.
