My first attempt at confirming this event seems to have resulted in a cock up. Here is my second attempt. Yes, there was a final wake at Sharston Mount and I was there, although it was as bizarre as you describe and it almost seems like a dream to me now.
A barrel of bitter was produced from somewhere along with a few curly sandwiches and I remember having to drink even more than usual as it had to be finished before the taxis arrived.
The school was in the initial stages of dereliction and it was strange to wander around all the old haunts, as ever all looked much smaller and less intimidating.
On my search around the old blocks I found a couple of textbooks and hid them behind a curtain to take with me when I left. True to form, when it
came time to depart, somebody had nicked them.
You can take the boy out of St. Augustines but you can`t take St.Augustines out of the boy.
