School closing do

Can anyone confirm whether this story I heard is true or not.
Allegedly when the school building was derelict and vandalised (windows all smashed in,floor tiles ripped up, no power or heating, etc.)that a get-together drink was organised in what was left of the Assembly Hall.
Apparently people came from miles away only to find out what was in store for them.
Did anybody out there go to this fiasco?
