ST. AUGUSTINES GRAMMAR SCHOOL
7th July, 1977
My dear Parents,
It has been agreed by the Manchester Education Committee that the existing Catholic secondary schools in the City should close on Monday, July 11th next, in order that the staff appointed to the new schools may attend meetings organised by the Heads Designate.
Consequently, next Monday, 11th July, there will be no lessons, and I must ask you to keep your sons at home. I hope you will understand that, with a teaching establishment of 63 persons, and two buildings, with a total enrolment of over 1000 pupils for next September, we have much planning to do.
The school will reopen for instruction on Tuesday, 12th July, at the usual time. The normal teaching programme will be followed as for Day 3. Your son should bring 60 pence dinner money for the fourday week.
With every good wish,
(F. J. McGUINESS)
Head Master Designate, St. John Plessington High School.
